Sad News!

I got an email from a couple of my friends in Kenya a few days ago. I was told that there was a fire in the school I taught at while in Kenya! It started one night in a shop somewhere close to the school. The fire spread and took out one the buildings at New Adventure. As it turns out, the one building totally burned was the office, which held all of the school records and school books, etc. The school is taking a break, and I'm not sure what will happen in the future! Please pray with me for the children and teachers of New Adventure school in Kibera Slums!
This is a picture of what is left!

Last days...

I had a really good teacher friend in Kenya. Susan taught in the high school level at New Adventure. We started talking on lunch breaks, since that was the only time our schedules intersected. After a while, she started coming to my house to teach me how to make some Kenyan foods. I think my housemates may have enjoyed the food almost as much as I did!

THis is Susan. We got together 3 times to make different meals. We were making Chapati, which is something similar to a tortilla, but so much better.
Two days before I was scheduled to leave Kenya, I received a package from my parents. That made my day! One thing that was included was some Christmas sprinkles. I HAD to use them before I left. I made these sugar cookies, and it felt more like Christmas! One of my housemates had an elephant cookie cutter, so I had to make some Kenyan Christmas cookies.
I wasn't supposed to make it to the SIM Christmas party, so we ate a few cookies and sent them to someone who WOULD make it to the party. Since my flight was cancelled, I went to the party , stayed through the dinner, and caught my flight afterward! It was a hot , sun-shiny day.

I was originally scheduled to fly out of Nairobi on Dec. 19, but the flight was canceled because of the snow in London. The flight was rescheduled to Leave Dec 24. A friend and I decided we didn't want to stay that long. After hours in the airport, we finally got tickets through another airline leaving the 22nd. I told my sisters when to pick me up from the airport, and to keep it a secret for my parents. My dad, being the detective he is, decided to do anything he could to get me home for Christmas! He called the flight agency, and they said, "Well, your daughter is actually in Dubai!"
Boy was he shocked, and he had to tell my siblings. They turned right around and said, "How did you find out?!" It was great to be back , but quite a shock to land at 28 degrees. I only had sandals. It's been fun to be home, and I can't wait for it to get warm again...to STAY!

Just a few people I worked with in Kenya

I thought that I would show you just a few people that I got to work with, got to know AND love while I was in Kenya. There are way too many for me to actually post them all, but here are just a few!
This is Dickson. He was the one who got the mail/packages from the post office, and he also worked out the visas and work permits. When it was time to renew, he was on top of things, and did everything but the signing. He made it look soooo easy! This is Clarice. She worked a lot with housing and much, much more!
This is Bernard. He worked in the Finance Department.
Gladys was the one that cleaned our house so faithfully every Thursday. She was so good, and the house was so clean! She was wonderful! She is also expecting a baby very soon. I am sad to not be able to meet the little one!

That is all for now, but I'll show more people later!

I'm not lost!!

Sorry about the delay in posts. For the last month in Nairobi, our internet didn't work most of the time, AND my computer stopped charging. I was without a computer for the last 3 weeks. Crazy...but enough excuses. I'm back!!!
My last post was Nov. 14th. Everyone but the 8th grade took their final exams. For the most part, they went well. A few were held back to re-take the same grade, but most of the kids passed. Here are some pictures from the last day of school:After school ended for the term, I worked in the SIM office everyday. I will post some pictures of some of the people that I worked with. Thanks so much for praying for me over the last 6 months!

Exams...

Since the 8th grade was taking their exams this past week (Mon-Thurs), the rest of the school had a school break to eliminate distractions. I tried to work out ministry days (to go visit other ministries in the area) for those days off, but those fell through. I ended up working in the SIM office Mon-Thurs. That was really nice as they have been really busy. Hopefully it will slow down a bit after this coming Friday.
Some of my friends/housemates came to my school last week to visit. Here are some of their pictures! Here are my students working diligently!! HAHAH
We started exams for the rest of the school as well. Those will continue through this week. I can't believe how quickly this term has gone! I will be home in 5 short weeks. WOW!

Fun with hair

Here is how my hair looked for 3 1/2 weeks....it only took 3 hours and 45 minutes to braid , or plait. This is the process of taking out the extensions. I even got a toothpick out for the really small braids:This is what happens when you play with electrical outlets:
This is when I finished pulling out my extension....more than 4 hours:Now....wait for a few more weeks and start the process all over again. :D

Fall ...in a new fashion

I'm experiencing a new kind of fall this year. I do miss the reds and oranges of the trees at home, but this is what I'm getting this year. Nice change for one year :D
HAPPY FALL, EVERYONE!!
